I had mono when I was 16. I'm now 25. Is it possible for me to get mono again?
- Ted

Mononucleosis is caused by the Epstein-Barr virus. Once a person has been infected, the person usually won't get the symptoms of mono again from this virus. The symptoms of mono include:

  • being tired all the time
  • fever
  • sore throat
  • loss of appetite

Of course, those symptoms are common to many medical conditions besides mono. And many people who have mono don't even notice any symptoms. Chances are, if you've been diagnosed as having mono before and you're now experiencing some of the symptoms above, you have another virus or other medical condition. To be sure, you'll need to see your doctor for an accurate diagnosis.
